Connect your AI assistant
Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any assistant that supports MCP about your AI visibility, the sources AI cites, your website audit and your tasks, using your own Story Arc data.
Server URL
https://app.thestoryarc.ai/api/mcpYou need a Story Arc account. The assistant sees only the workspaces you can see in Story Arc, with the same role.
Set it up
Claude (claude.ai, Desktop, mobile): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Paste the server URL, then sign in to Story Arc and approve access.
Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http storyarc https://app.thestoryarc.ai/api/mcpThen run /mcp in Claude Code and choose Authenticate.
ChatGPT, Cursor and others: add a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP) with the server URL. The assistant opens a Story Arc sign-in page the first time it connects.
What it can do
| Tool | Access | What it returns |
|---|---|---|
| list_workspaces | Read | The workspaces you can access, with each one’s website, brands and competitors. |
| get_visibility_summary | Read | How often AI assistants mention your brand when people ask without naming it (discovery), by AI model and by prompt, and what answers say when people ask about you by name (reputation): how they present you and which other brands they name. |
| list_prompts | Read | The prompts you track, the AI models each is asked of, and whether it runs on your schedule. |
| get_prompt_answers | Read | What each AI model answered for one prompt in its latest runs, with the brands it mentions, how it presents your brand and why, and the sources it cites. |
| get_cited_sources | Read | The websites AI cites for your prompts, ranked by how often they appear in answers that leave you out. |
| get_changes | Read | What changed between two periods: discovery visibility by model and prompt, brands gaining or losing share, reputation on prompts that name you, sites that started or stopped citing, tasks completed. |
| diagnose_prompt | Read | Why AI does or doesn’t recommend you for one prompt: what it said, who it recommends, what it cites, whether your site answers it, and the open tasks. |
| compare_competitor | Read | You against one competitor: mentions by prompt and model, the sites behind answers that pick them, and both websites’ audit scores. |
| get_ai_traffic | Read | Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other AI assistants, from your connected Google Analytics. |
| list_suggestions | Read | Suggested prompts to track, and brands AI keeps mentioning that you don’t track yet. |
| get_audit_report | Read | Your latest website audit: score, summary, issues, what AI crawlers get, prompt coverage and competitor scores. |
| list_tasks | Read | Your task list: website fixes and visibility actions, with priority and status. |
| get_task | Read | One task in full: affected pages, steps, starting code, a fix brief, assignee, due date and notes. |
| list_workspace_members | Read | The people in a workspace, for assigning tasks. |
| get_run_status | Read | Progress of a prompt run, and its answers once it finishes. |
| update_task | Write | Change a task’s status, assignee, due date, notes or completed steps. |
| create_prompt | Write | Track a new prompt, in your own words or from a suggestion, on the standard AI models (or the extended set on paid plans), and optionally run it now (uses credits). |
| update_prompt | Write | Reword, rename, change the model set of, pause or resume a prompt, or set whether it counts towards discovery or reputation. |
| run_prompt | Write | Run a prompt now (1 credit per AI model). Returns straight away; the run takes a few minutes. |
| check_page | Write | Check one page of your site now (after publishing or fixing it), update the audit, and see which tracked prompts it answers. |
| dismiss_prompt_suggestion | Write | Hide a suggested prompt. |
| update_brands | Write | Add or remove your brand’s names and tracked competitors. Workspace owners and admins only. |
| run_audit | Write | Re-run your website audit and competitor audits. Free; takes 3-10 minutes. |
| delete_prompt | Delete | Permanently delete a prompt and its history. Workspace owners and admins only. |
Running a prompt uses credits, exactly as in Story Arc (1 per AI model), and your assistant will say so before it runs one. Runs and audits happen in the background: the assistant starts them, then checks back for results. The connector can't change other workspace settings, members or billing.
Things to ask
- How visible is my brand in AI answers this month, and which prompts are weakest?
- What did ChatGPT say when asked about savings accounts, and which competitors did it recommend?
- Which websites should we get featured on to show up in more AI answers?
- What should we fix first on our website? Give me the brief for the top task.
- Mark the FAQ schema task as in progress, assign it to Sam and make it due Friday.
- Start tracking “best KiwiSaver for first home buyers” and run it.
- Re-run our website audit and tell me what changed.
- What changed this week, and why did our visibility drop on ChatGPT?
- Why doesn’t AI recommend us for “best business bank account”?
- How do we compare with Kiwibank?
- How much traffic do we get from AI assistants?
- I just published this page: is it ready for AI? https://…
- What else should we be tracking? Add the first two.
Your data
The assistant gets an access token after you approve it, never your password. Story Arc receives only the tool requests the assistant makes; we don't receive or store your conversations. We record which tools are used, with ids, options and timings, to improve the connector, but not what you typed or what the tools returned. What the assistant reads is then handled under its provider's terms. See the privacy policy.
To disconnect, remove Story Arc from your assistant's connector settings.
Troubleshooting
- “Workspace doesn't exist or you don't have access”: you signed in with a different Story Arc account from the one that owns the workspace. Disconnect and reconnect with the right account.
- “Sign-in has expired”: reconnect Story Arc in your assistant's settings.
- Numbers look old: results update when your prompts run (usually weekly). Run prompts from Story Arc to refresh them.
